Asthma

Chapter 45 Asthma

The term asthma refers to a group of allergic conditions characterized by reversible pulmonary airway obstruction. Patients with the most common form of asthma commonly show genetic predisposition to related allergic conditions such as allergic dermatitis and hay fever, and these individuals are described as atopic.

Asthma and hay fever are the most well known of a spectrum of disorders caused by inappropriate immune activity (hypersensitivity).
