Blocker’s Exostosis (Arm Exostosis)
Common signs and symptoms
• Pain, tenderness, and sensitivity of the upper arm at the site of the exostosis, worsened by pressure or minor injury to the area
• Change in contour of the arm, either visible or detectable by touch, depending on the size of the exostosis and ranging from a small lump or bump to a large spur on the humerus
Factors that increase risk
• Contact sports, particularly football or rugby, or other sports that require blocking with the arms
Preventive measures
• Maintain appropriate conditioning, including flexibility and strengthening of the muscles of the arm.
