Barotitis Media Description Barotitis media is pressure-induced damage to the middle ear that can result from the inability to equalize pressure between the middle ear and the environment. It affects the middle ear, eustachian tube, and nerve endings in the ear. The syndrome can result from exposure to varying environmental pressures, as occurs with deep-water diving or with ascent or descent in altitude.
