yips a movement disorder that can affect sports performers, seen particularly in golfers but also in cricketers and darts players, involving uncontrollable movements of the hand or wrist or an inability to release the ball or dart, making effective performance impossible. Its causes are unknown but both neurological deficits due to long-term overuse and psychological factors such as performance anxiety have been implicated.
