OVERVIEW.


To instruct means to give special information, knowledge, or skill.1 Two sources offer advice on instructing patients using auditory, cognitive, tactile, visual, and written methods. Ruholl2 addresses the elderly patient’s needs, whereas Balson3 offers general advice on patient education from a pharmacist’s perspective. Issue are organized by sensory modality, cognition, and written materials.
