The M. masseter can be easily palpated through the skin along its course from the mandibular angle to the zygomatic arch. When clenching the teeth, the deep belly of the M. temporalis becomes noticeable in the temporal fossa. The M. pterygoideus medialis is located on the inner surface of the lower jaw (Ramus mandibulae). The M. pterygoideus lateralis projects anteriorly from the temporomandibular joint.
