An Expression of Gratitude

Gregory T. Carter, MD, MS, Consulting Editor

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
As my tenure as medical editor of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America comes to an end, I want to extend my sincerest thanks to Elsevier for granting me the privilege of holding this position for many years now. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedicated excellence of senior Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America editor Jennifer Flynn-Briggs, who helped me in more ways than I can list here. In addition, I want to acknowledge Donald Mumford of Elsevier for his patience and persistence in helping me meet publishing deadlines. There are many others I would like to thank, too many to mention individually. However, I would be amiss to not formally recognize all of the guest editors and countless authors of the articles that were published during my time as medical editor. The Clinics has very high standards. Publishing an article in these volumes represents a considerable amount of time and work, often done after clinic and on weekends. When reading a Clinics volume, realize that you are holding the product of untold hours of effort. In that light, I offer my heartfelt appreciation to Dr John Chae and the many excellent authors he recruited for this issue.

In closing, I would like to acknowledge my dear friend and mentor, Dr George H. Kraft, who was the medical editor for several decades before me. Under Dr Kraft’s leadership, the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America grew to be one of the best, Medline-referenced, sources of up-to-date cutting-edge clinical reviews. When Dr Kraft decided to step down, I was deeply honored to assume his position.
