    Are there any concomitant injuries? Hip dislocations require emergent intervention.

    Does the patient have any neurologic deficits?

     

  3. 3.


    What is the mechanism of injury?

    CT scan with fine cuts and sagittal recons

     

  2. 2.


    Traction pin and supplies (when necessary)

     


When to Escalate





  1. 1.


    Any open fracture (rare) requires immediate antibiotics and operative debridement.

     

  2. 2.


    Neurologic injuries should be communicated to the attending orthopedic surgeon attending on call.

     

  3. 3.


    At some institutions, incarcerated bone fragments in the hip joint are considered operative emergencies.

     

  4. 4.


    Fracture dislocations require urgent reduction.
