Skin
Skin impairments fall into three categories: cosmetic, regional, and whole person. For the cosmetic aspects, refer the patient to a plastic surgeon or an individual specializing in impairment evaluations, such as a member of the American Association of Disability Evaluating Physicians (1).
Regional impairments due to skin loss in the upper extremity are rated on loss of motion and loss of sensation. Use the appropriate tables in Chapter 6.
Regional impairments due to skin loss in the lower extremity (LE) are rated on loss of motion. Use the appropriate tables in Chapter 7. In addition, they may be rated on interference with activity. In this case, use the following values:
